What type of business license(s) do i need to provide a snake removal service in California?

I have checked with the department of Fish and game and am all clear with them. What type of business permit(s) do I need? I will be based out of my home (no office space) but will not be bringing my work home with me! Will I need to get a P.O. box in order to have a physical mailing address for the “business”? I will be providing the service in multiple counties and cities but will be based in one city, in one county. Do I need a license from every city and county that I may potentially be doing business in or just where the business is based. Again, this is regarding a snake removal service for several counties and numerous cities within those counties. I am not selling products or building anything…simply removing venomous snakes from people’s properties for a suggested fee/donation. Thanks!


You should contact your state, county, and city of your home base, and ask each level of government what licenses or permits you’ll need for your location, type of business, and entity type. There are corporate lawyers who can help you make these determinations, or third-party services that can determine and obtain all of your required licenses and permits for you.

As far as your neighboring counties, you’ll need to determine what constitutes “doing business” in those counties — they may require you to register your business in their counties as well, which will require additional licenses and permits.
