Is this new Enterprise Allowance being set up by the government a complete waste of time or what?
I did a Start Your Own Business course at college and prepared a business plan. My initial start-up costs were estimated to be 25,000 which included a rental of a premises in an out of town area.
The government are saying they will give you UP TO £1000 to start up a business plus a weekly allowance for up to 26 weeks of £65 a week. Is this a joke or what? The only businesses that I can see coming out of that scheme are home based businesses that have very few outgoings.

No they are not a joke
both my husband and my son started up their business getting this help
You have to take a loan yourself as well as the help available via this scheme
My husband only got £500 start up along with £70 a week for 16 weeks as he has on JSA
he also attended appropriate training once a week
he now has a successful snack delivery business, and used the £500 for marketing and storage
and raised the other money he required via his bank
My son got the start up cash of £500 and nothing else, he now has a shop and a thriving computer business. He raised the other money himself
Do remember this is tax payer’s money, and you need to take risks too
as I’m sure you know the statistics of business failures in the early years of operation
Good luck in your business venture
EDIT @Steve B-
what an insulting comment, both my husband and son had been made redundant , decided to go the S.E. route rather than stay on JSA,, they make good use of their knowledge skills and experience, they were certainly NOT unemployable
